FAQs

  • Custom jewelry is a one-of-a-kind piece designed and created specifically for you based on your vision, style, and preferences. Unlike mass-produced jewelry, custom pieces are personalized from start to finish—from the choice of gemstones and metals to the overall design, size, and details.

  • Roughly 80% of our pieces are crafted here in the U.S., including most of our custom and high-end designs. For certain designs that require specialized techniques or equipment not widely available domestically, we partner with trusted overseas manufacturers.

Our gemstones are carefully sourced from reputable suppliers around the world to ensure both quality and ethical standards.

  • There are two easy ways to start a project with us, depending on what you’re looking for:

Option 1: If you already have a clear idea of what you’d like to create but aren’t sure about the cost, fill out the Custom Jewelry Client Inquiry Form above. Once we receive it, we’ll reach out to you directly to discuss next steps.

Option 2: If you’re working with a specific budget and are open to creative direction, choose a free Fixed-Price Custom Consultation in the tier that fits your price range. Once your consultation order comes in, we’ll contact you to begin the process. If you already have ideas, don’t worry, we’ll take them into account — but we’ll also ensure the final design fits within your selected budget.

In either case, after the consultation, we’ll provide a formal quote or invoice along with an agreement. We only move forward once both the agreement is signed and payment is received.

To understand the full design journey, we recommend reviewing the Custom Design Process section at the top of this page.

Feel free to reach out anytime with questions — we’re here to help!

  • At Stella Song Designs, each project is quoted as a single all-inclusive price. That means your quote covers everything — from consultation and design fees to revisions, labor, materials (including metals and gemstones), production, packaging, and even fully insured shipping.

For many projects, services like 3D printing or high-quality renderings are also included at no extra cost. If any additional services are recommended but not included, we’ll clearly outline them in your quote and agreement — so you’ll never be unprepared by unexpected charges.

Our Fixed-Price Custom Projects start at $2,000 and go up to $100,000, with nine pricing tiers designed to accommodate a wide range of budgets.

For our fully custom design service, projects typically start at $5,000, and can range into the millions of dollars for museum-quality, high jewelry pieces. On average, most of our clients invest between $10,000 and $350,000.

Our goal is to give you complete transparency and peace of mind, from the very beginning.

  • The timeline can vary depending on the complexity of the design and materials involved.

At minimum, a simple design typically takes around 30 days to complete. Our average turnaround time is 40–60 days. However, for intricate pieces — especially those that involve rare gemstone sourcing or exceptionally detailed craftsmanship — the process can take several months to up to a year.

Since every custom project is unique, we’ll provide a personalized timeline estimate in your quote. We always aim to be upfront and realistic about what it takes to bring your vision to life with the quality it deserves.

  • Yes — rush orders are sometimes possible, but it depends on the design and material availability.

If certain materials (such as rare gemstones or metals) are difficult to source at the time of your order, we may not be able to guarantee an accelerated timeline. That’s why it’s very important to let us know during your initial consultation — if you need the piece completed by a specific date.

If a rush order is approved, your project will be prioritized ahead of standard jobs (in the sequence of other rush orders). A typical rush fee is 25% of the quoted project price.

We’ll always evaluate your request honestly and let you know what’s realistically possible before you commit.

  • Because each piece is custom-made specifically for you, all sales are final and non-returnable, except in the rare case of a manufacturing defect (which, to date, has never happened).

That said, you can feel confident knowing that we work very closely with you throughout the entire process — from concept to final approval. Most projects include 1–3 rounds of revisions at each stage, ensuring the design meet or exceed your expectation.

We’re proud to say that every single client so far has been thrilled with their finished piece. Your satisfaction is not only our priority — it’s our promise.

  • All of our pieces come with a limited lifetime warranty covering craftsmanship and structural integrity.

For added peace of mind, we recommend purchasing additional warranty protection or jewelry insurance at your own cost, especially for high-value or sentimental items.

Upon request, we can also provide gemstone certificates, jewelry appraisals, or third-party authentication reports when needed. Some of these services may come with an additional fee, which will be discussed upfront before your piece is delivered.

  • We work with nearly all major jewelry-grade metals, including (but not limited to): 10K, 14K, 18K, and 22K gold, platinum, palladium, gold vermeil, sterling silver, titanium, tungsten carbide, rhodium, and blackened or oxidized finishes.

We rarely use 24K gold due to its soft nature, or nickel-based gold alloys unless specifically requested and acknowledged by the client for color reasons. We do not work with stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, or pewter, as they are not ideal for fine custom jewelry.

For gemstones, we work with a wide variety of natural and lab-created stones, both precious and semi-precious. We’ll help you determine which stones are best suited for your piece, based on the budget, design, and your lifestyle.

Every stone used will be clearly outlined in your quote, including whether it is natural or lab-grown, so you can make a fully informed choice.

  • For projects priced at $5,000 or less, we require full payment upfront to begin the process.

For projects over $5,000, a deposit of 50% to 80% is required, depending on the scope and total value of your order. The remaining balance is due before we proceed with casting and/or manufacturing.

We also offer Afterpay and Klarna, which provide interest-free payment plans ranging from 3 to 24 months, depending on eligibility. You may select one of these options at checkout if you qualify.

All payment terms will be clearly outlined in your quote and agreement, so you’ll know exactly what to expect at each stage.

  • Absolutely. We’ll keep you promptly updated at each key stage of the process — from design to final production. You’re also welcome to check in with us at any time.

Our goal is to keep you informed, involved, and confident throughout the creation of your piece.

Fun fact — Stella has designed home décor, personal objects, and housewares for select clients in the past. So you never know what’s possible… until you ask!

  • Unless otherwise specified in writing, Stella Song Designs retains full copyright and ownership of the original design. This is standard practice in the jewelry and design industries.

As the client, you receive the right to use the design solely for the creation of the agreed-upon custom piece. You can wear, gift, or sell the physical jewelry item—but you do not have the right to reproduce, resell, or use the design for any other purpose without prior written permission.

  • Yes! If you would like exclusive ownership of the design—including the rights to reproduce, resell, or use it commercially—you can request an Exclusive License or Full Rights Transfer. An additional Exclusive License Fee, Buyout Fee, or Royalty Fee will apply, and the terms will be customized based on your intended use.

  • CAD files and technical drawings are not automatically included by default. If you would like to obtain them, they can be purchased separately under a design file release agreement. Please inquire for details.

  • Yes — we can take on CAD work or partial design services in special cases. Just reach out and ask!

That said, please note this isn’t something we typically offer. We usually work with our own trusted manufacturing partners to ensure the final piece is executed perfectly and meets our exacting standards in every detail.

If you’re working with your own production team and need design support, we’re happy to discuss whether it’s the right fit on a case-by-case basis.
